If a particular page on a website does not load for some reason or if a link is not functioning, the site visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the site, which may make the visitor leave the site. A potential solution in this case is a function offered by some hosting service providers - the option to set your own custom-made error pages which will have exactly the same design and style as your site and that could contain any text or images that you would like depending on the specific error. There are 4 common errors which could take place and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your Internet browser sends a bad request to the web server and it cannot be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you have not done so yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a particular page; and 404, if a link which you've clicked leads to a file which doesn't exist. In any of these cases, visitors shall be able to see your custom made content rather than a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting

You will be able to set up customized error pages for each of your sites with ease if you use any of our cloud hosting. This could be done via the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, offered with all accounts and when you go there, you can set your customized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You must upload the files to your account in advance and input the links to them through the process. This function may be de-activated anytime and the options you'll be able to select from are a conventional page from our system or a default Apache server page. Custom made error pages can be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be put into the domain or subdomain folder and it should include some system code and links to the pages. If you aren't tech-savvy, you can copy the whole content necessary for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you could set tailor-made error pages for each of them with ease through our in-house made Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With a few clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you'll be able to change the default setting from a system page to a personalized one for any of the four error types. All you need to do is provide a link to every single file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If required, you'll be able to revert this change anytime and in exactly the same way. If you wish, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It has to be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder related to the website whose error pages you would want to alter and the content for this kind of file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
